CHARACTER DEATHS
CHARACTER DEATHS

When a character's body suffers fatal damage, they dissipate around their Shards - but as long as the Shards themselves are not destroyed, a Shard-Bearer will return to life. In order for this regenerative process to take place, however, Shards must be brought to the Tree of Life - a place to which all Bearers are innately connected. (This knowledge is well-known by all Bearers in both Highstorm and Springstar, and thus you can handwave how your character came about the details.)
A Bearer's Shard must be placed near the Tree's base; it will slowly sink into the earth until buried. Over the course of the next 5-7 days (your OOC choosing), a cocoon of moss, roots, and soil will begin to emerge from the ground - and as long as the Shard held within is not disturbed, the Bearer will regenerate and revive from within. Once the process is complete, they will 'hatch' from their cocoon like a newborn birdling - with or without outside assistance. They will find themselves weak and generally unwell for the next few days; the time of their recovery is up to you. Whether they bear scars or permanent disfiguration as a result of damage suffered prior to dissipation is up to you.
Should your character die, please fill out the form below to report this to the Loremasters! You may receive some Interesting Information about the journey your character takes while their bodies are coming back into being...
Please note: If your character dies under circumstances that would see their Shard with an enemy who does not intend to let them revive at the Tree or dies in a manner where their Shard is not retrieved by an ally who will bring them there, please reach out to a Loremaster! We can assist you in making sure they aren't stuck in limbo.

As he rests and regrows, he dreams, but one doesn’t seem like a dream at all. In the depths of the void, Childe's consciousness stirs amidst the hazy veil of death. As his spirit floats in the ethereal realm, he feels the flame of his being pulled into a fractured tapestry of timelines and possibilities, each scene unfolding with vivid clarity, portraying different versions of himself across various epochs. In all of them, he is a Shard-Bearer. In all of them, he struggles, fighting through the weight of years. In all of them, he sees himself consumed by a familiar darkness, his very soul ravaged - sometimes by the Zenith, sometimes the Meridian.
In all of them, his Shard inevitably shatters.
Amidst the chaotic whirl of these spectral echoes, the final vision beckoned. Childe's heart raced as he witnessed a version of himself desperately reaching out, his own eyes filled with urgency. Words struggled to pierce the veil of his consciousness, but he discerned a fragment of their message: "you have to break it." Before he could grasp the full meaning, the Shard in that incarnation shattered into countless pieces, piercing the air like shards of glass, embedding themselves into Childe's very being.
When Childe comes to, he’ll find himself encased in a cocoon. The cocoon is filled with a familiar sap, just up to Childe’s neck. The thin material of the cocoon isn’t difficult to break through, but it still feels like a great effort because of how weak he feels. It’s as if he’s been doing days of strenuous activity, and the feeling will linger along with general body aches and chills for the next few days as his body demands rest and recovery.
