CHARACTER DEATHS
CHARACTER DEATHS

When a character's body suffers fatal damage, they dissipate around their Shards - but as long as the Shards themselves are not destroyed, a Shard-Bearer will return to life. In order for this regenerative process to take place, however, Shards must be brought to the Tree of Life - a place to which all Bearers are innately connected. (This knowledge is well-known by all Bearers in both Highstorm and Springstar, and thus you can handwave how your character came about the details.)
A Bearer's Shard must be placed near the Tree's base; it will slowly sink into the earth until buried. Over the course of the next 5-7 days (your OOC choosing), a cocoon of moss, roots, and soil will begin to emerge from the ground - and as long as the Shard held within is not disturbed, the Bearer will regenerate and revive from within. Once the process is complete, they will 'hatch' from their cocoon like a newborn birdling - with or without outside assistance. They will find themselves weak and generally unwell for the next few days; the time of their recovery is up to you. Whether they bear scars or permanent disfiguration as a result of damage suffered prior to dissipation is up to you.
Should your character die, please fill out the form below to report this to the Loremasters! You may receive some Interesting Information about the journey your character takes while their bodies are coming back into being...
Please note: If your character dies under circumstances that would see their Shard with an enemy who does not intend to let them revive at the Tree or dies in a manner where their Shard is not retrieved by an ally who will bring them there, please reach out to a Loremaster! We can assist you in making sure they aren't stuck in limbo.

As he rests and regrows, it's not a peaceful process, however. A cold settles deep into him, and it's as if he'll never feel warm again, he feels. There's something wrong, something rotten, and there's nothing that seems to alleviate how it wraps around him. He'll remember having dreams and nightmares both, but most are indistinct and unable to be recalled other than a sense of discontent.
However, there is one that sticks out.
John is in Highstorm, but the air is still and dead. There's not a noise in the city save for the sound of his footfalls. As he walks, he doesn't see anyone. Communion doesn't return a response. It's as if he's the only person left within the city.
Yet, he's drawn to Yima's manor and to the Great Tree that resides there. The Tree is all but bereft of life. Its bark has withered down to gnarled wood, the soft lichen dried up, and the plants that should be alive beneath it are long dead and gone. There is not so much as a single leaf on its decaying branches.
Formed in its roots is something new: an effigy. It's made of gnarled, dead branches woven together in a humanoid shape; its hollow, empty eyes are sightless, yet you cannot help but feel it is watching your every move. Branded on its forehead is the Iconoclast symbol carved into the rough wood. He reaches out to touch the symbol, but it burns, a fire against the cold of the Blight, and then-- He wakes.
When John comes to, he’ll find himself encased in a cocoon. The cocoon is filled with a familiar sap , just up to John’s neck. It's also cold, a chill down to the bone as if he's still Blighted, though the sensation will pass about ten minutes after breaking out of the cocoon.
The thin material of the cocoon isn’t difficult to break through, but it still feels like a great effort because of how weak he feels. It’s as if he’s been doing days of strenuous activity, and the feeling will linger along with general body aches and chills for the next few days as his body demands rest and recovery.
