THE GOOD
How far would they go to accomplish their goals or fulfil their desires? Do they have lines they wouldn't cross?
Everything Ruby does is to accomplish her goal, and there's very little she balks at. Most obviously, she'll accept a lot of harm to herself in the name of long-term survival. She'll submit herself to any humiliation, any violence, any role as long as it means she might live — even if she risks death in the process, just as a fun little contradiction. She's also willing to turn a blind eye to violence inflicted on others, which she notes when the demonic monsters she's living with eat other humans.
Considering she's always been the victim in her lives, it's hard to say where Rudbeckia draws the line in regards to personally committing violence — she's never once been in a position to even think about it. At the height of her despair, she scathingly recommends to other nobles that they should threaten and murder her brothers, but at the same time, she's someone who leans more towards self-loathing and suicidal despair than she is likely to have the self-worth to commit murder for herself.
What is something they treasure?
I'M REALLY NOT JOKING WHEN I SAY SHE HAS NOTHING. Um. Uh. "Treasure" is a stretch but something she is fond of... Popo, the popori (a kind of demonic monster) that was kind to her one time when she got lost in the woods.
What do they consider to be their best or most positive qualities?
HAHA... As far as Ruby is concerned, she's only good at one thing, and that's acting. While she won't admit it to herself in her day-to-day existence, she considers herself to be a wretched and worthless person, as well as an unlovable monster.
What is this character's best memory?
Something innocuous and pathetically simple from her previous life: just a day spent with her adoptive sister with nobody else around, a rare occasion that wasn't tainted by the looming shadow of the rest of her family.
Is there anyone they have highly positive feelings towards?
✦ Her older sister from her adoptive family in her previous life. They weren't even particularly close siblings, but Ruby upholds her as the only person in the world who ever genuinely cared about her or showed her kindness even in the smallest ways.
✦ NEW! ✨ Set. As far as Ruby is concerned, he is the only person she has ever known who is both completely accepting of her and who actively desires to protect her. Prior to the May Oracle Event, her feelings towards him were more cautious, but ever since his promise that he would keep her no matter what side she stayed on, she feels more favourably towards him than anyone else.
THE BAD
What could or would tempt your character to compromise their principles?
Any improvement to her chances of survival. This doesn't have to be a guarantee; she's willing to gamble as long as she thinks she might have a chance. With Iske, for example, she's willing to accept being beaten, abandoned, used for sex, or exploited for her monster-taming abilities — all of it a future she dreads, but will submit herself to because as the protagonist, he's the strongest lifeline.
What do they desire above all else?
Ruby would say survival, or perhaps safety, even if that's something she's never actually experienced. Beyond that, a peaceful end to her miserable existence. Deep deep down, the thing she actually desires above all else but would never admit to is a happy life where she is loved and wanted.
What are their biggest fear and/or insecurities?
She is afraid of death, most prominently. Her actual biggest fear is abandonment, though she refuses to confront that fact; hand-in-hand with that, she's similarly afraid of honesty and exposure, as her experiences have taught her that anyone knowing the "real" her will inevitably result in that person violently turning against her. Having been berated, bullied, and abused all her life, her insecurities are too numerous to count.
What is this character's worst memory?
Shortly after she became Rudbeckia de Borgia, she attempted to derail the plot of the novel by rejecting an arranged marriage that would later contribute to the Borgias' downfall and massacre, trying to protect her new family. As soon as she went against their plans, she learnt that her new family was no different to her old one — Cesare made her watch as he fed her pet bird to his snapping turtle, and then the Pope had Cesare beat her until she had to beg for her life.
Is there anyone they have highly negative feelings towards?
✦ In her previous life, her adoptive parents and eldest brother. Her mother was both verbally and physically abusive towards her, belittling her for every perceived mistake or flaw; her father, Ruby only refers to as "a monster." Her eldest brother was the worst case, severely abusive to her in myriad ways right up until her death.
✦ In her life as Rudbeckia, her adoptive father Pope Borgia and her eldest brother Cesare. Cesare is the person she despises most in the world; abusive, possessive, controlling, mercurial, obsessed – he is one of her worst fears and the source of a great deal of her trauma.
✦ She also has complicated but prominently negative feelings towards Iske, her fifth husband; he's someone she had to rely on for survival even though he's also the character that was meant to kill her, and so she spent all their time together terrified of the moment he'd suddenly murder her. She considers him both "the shining knight" (the protagonist, a hero, a good person) and "Bluebeard" (a threat, her tormentor, her murderer).
THE ET CETERA
What kinds of gifts does your character like?
Any gift she receives is likely to be regarded as conditional or trade, so she'll never actually be happy about it, but she'll always pretend she likes it. If you asked her, she'd play vapid princess and say something like clothes or jewellery. The one thing she might actually like would be a sentimental gift, not because she cares but because it's an indication that she can use that person as a lifeline.
What item(s) would your character be pleased to receive as a reward?
Useful items that would protect her... Enchanted accessories that cast a shield or turn her invisible or teleport her away when she's in danger, things like that.
What item(s) would your character never ask for, but you, the player, would want to give them?
- Items from home: her wedding ring (which she actually left by the Tree of Life), Cesare's golden turtle statue... I'll add to this list as I think of more unpleasant keepsakes hlgkfhdg
- Things she has thrown into the void being returned to her. Current list: Sodom and the Holy Grail, the novel that Rudbeckia is from.

OOC, what are your goals with this character? What would you enjoy seeing them getting involved in or would enjoy as a potential character arc?✦ The ultimate goal is to crack her open under pressure until she can finally discard her fake persona, but that's long term! I don't want her to be exposed in full too quickly.
✦ But, in that vein, things that feed into her stress and paranoia, that remind her of her worst memories because her life is an endlessly repeating cycle until she can finally break free of it... Good content. Getting tangled up in the Church could be good for this, or otherwise caught under someone's thumb. (This can also be other PCs lmao.)
✦ Ruby is in a unique position in Kenos: she will never care about the outcome of the faction war, because it doesn't matter what happens as long as she doesn't have to go home. So I think it would be fun if she gets to explore neutrality and Hating Both Sides lmao. Getting her caught up in faction disputes is also fun because I do eventually want her to snap and reveal that she couldn't care less about either side.
✦ I'm never going to want her to be self-sufficient or combat-ready, and in fact my preference is to make her more dependent on others.
✦ She won't ever get involved in the PvP elements of the game, so giving her social arenas to work in maybe? I would actually love for her to end up being targeted and bullied the way she is in canon because I'm evil. One of Ruby's worst habits is that she will not defend herself when accused of anything, because she expects nobody will believe her anyway, so I would adore if I could get her accidentally caught up in some social drama and falsely accused of some shit.
✦ Continuing her Disney Princess For Monsters adventures! I'd love to continue developing her relationship with monsters like those in Alenroux independent of any faction motives, since it's one of the few things Ruby will ever be invested in of her own will. She's particularly interested in providing sanctuary for those she's able to rescue, which Set has offered his shrine in the Beyond as currently – her ambitions aren't grand, she's more focused on making a better place for the dozen or so creatures that she's befriended over the months.
✦ Someday I want her to reclaim her original identity, the one she was never able to actually live as, but she has complexes built on complexes about that and would also feel strange about it when she isn't in her real body. So... Opportunities to find out if there are ways she could get her actual appearance back...
✦ NEW! ✨ Becoming Set's head (and probably only) priestess. This hasn't started just yet (as of June) but soon she's going to come to the decision to completely overhaul her "role" in Kenos to make her existence revolve around her relationship to Set. She's going to make herself known as his priestess and make efforts to carry out the appropriate duties, so – as Set's reputation in Kenos evolves, so will hers as his shrine maiden!!
✦ NEW! ✨ To Ruby, Zenith is coming to represent the same life that Romagna and the Borgias offered, where she is offered "love" but lives in fear of the consequences for disappointment; therefore, Meridian shares the position of Britannia and Iske, a place where she is hated and scorned but allowed to live if she proves her usefulness. Opportunities to feed into this cycle would be very much something I want! Currently, with Zenith, if she could get into some sort of situation where she is found lacking in order to cement this cycle...
