Because one of the goals of Kenos is to give characters unique, compelling reasons to both show loyalty to their faction and to question it, it’s helpful to get to know them better! While filling out this survey isn’t required, it’s highly recommended! How else can we effectively torment or reward your blorbo if we don’t know what they hate/love? ♥

OOC, what are your goals with this character? What would you enjoy seeing them getting involved in or would enjoy as a potential character arc?
Does your character strongly believe in one of the faction's promises? Did they get involved in a plot that they're now very invested in pushing to completion? Do you want a corruption arc for them? THE GOOD

How far would they go to accomplish their goals or fulfill their desires? Do they have lines they wouldn't cross?
As far as it seemed reasonable to go. When dealing with entities who are actively seeking the death of himself or other beings (and actually dangerous enough to potentially succeed), he'll use lethal force and feel no remorse about doing so. In less extreme circumstances, however, he'll go to every effort to avoid a situation where killing another sapient being is necessary. It is one of the few "taboos" he actually takes seriously, the other being that he would not read the mind of another person without their express consent (even if he acquired the ability to do so).

He will, however, lie, manipulate, and generally act nasty until the cows come home.

What is something they treasure?
The 3D recordings the ship took of its combat engagement with the GFCF fleet near Tsung, which Demeisen was able to view afterwards. In a broader sense, Demeisen treasures any opportunity to engage in a real fight—something that has previously been very rare for him because of the Culture's policy of only light interference with other civilizations (with battle as strictly a last resort).

What do they consider to be their best or most positive qualities?
His ability to notice opportunities and details, and think through and solve problems. Even if he is also proud of his physical capabilities and of generally just being a sophisticated piece of technology, he is happiest when he has the chance to engage his mental faculties, and most proud of his capacity to creatively tackle challenges that would frustrate other people.

What is this character's best memory?
His memories of the aforementioned combat engagement while he was on the ship. While he doesn't have the memories of the ship itself, he was being controlled by the ship at the time, so the ship's excitement and satisfaction in the wake of this event was very literally Demeisen's as well. Man could've used a cigarette.

Is there anyone they have highly positive feelings towards?
He has fond feelings towards Lededje Y'breq, the ship's one and only human passenger to date, whom Demeisen kept company during their weeks-long journey back to her home planet. He regarded her as a "good kid," and was in the process of helping her kill (cw: slavery, rape) her ex-owner/rapist/murderer at the canon point he was taken from.

THE BAD

What could or would tempt your character to compromise their principles?
In general, Demeisen's principles are fairly mutable, and subject to what he deems reasonable at the time. In an emergency, he will go to lengths he normally wouldn't if it seems like the only reliable way to avoid an unacceptable outcome. Mostly this just impacts how much collateral he feels is acceptable during a conflict, which generally would be "zero," but might potentially rise to a small number if he felt he had no other options.

What do they desire above all else?
The opportunity to show off in his element—that is, the battlefield—for a good cause. But more specifically, he wishes to be reunited with the Falling Outside The Normal Moral Constraints, because it is capable of exponentially more than he ever could be. Any accomplishment he could make as a singular avatar would be overshadowed by this desire.

What are their biggest fear and/or insecurities?
Never being reunited with the ship; existing as a shell of himself for the rest of his operational life. Being out of contact with the ship doesn't scare him, but the idea that the ship is gone for good definitely does. So much of his identity is wrapped up in being the ship's avatar that this would be devastating to contend with.

What is this character's worst memory?
Given his peaceful existence in a post-scarcity utopia for most of his life, it's probably safe to say that Demeisen's worst memory is actually experiencing the world-ending vision and waking up in Kenos convinced that the ship was destroyed along with the rest of the universe. The worst he ever would have experienced prior to then would have probably just been boredom.

Is there anyone they have highly negative feelings towards?
Demeisen dislikes plenty of people, with varying degrees of intensity. He has disdain for the overly helpful, evangelical types who tend to make up the Contact group within the Culture, and enjoys provoking those who consider individuals in Special Circumstances (like him) to be untrustworthy and dangerous. He also has a profound dislike for predatory scumbags and killers, and is happy to merc them if he has proper cause to do so.

What item(s) would your character be pleased to receive as a reward?
• Military-grade Culture tech, which he can never have because it is too OP for a game.
• Any other kind of military tech, even if it's lower-level. Electronic weapons and/or drones are ideal since he can interface with those directly.

What item(s) would your character never ask for, but you, the player, would want to give them?
• A little model of the Falling Outside The Normal Moral Constraints
• A dual-purpose mirror/invertor (hand-held mirror on one side, flipped-image screen on the other)
• A terminal (small object like a pen or ring housing a computer; functions as a communicator, to contact other communicators, access computer systems, or talk to synthetic minds)

OOC, what are your goals with this character? What would you enjoy seeing them getting involved in or would you enjoy as a potential character arc?
• As a personal arc, I'm interested in exploring Demeisen's development as an independent entity in such an unfamiliar setting. I think he has the potential to be humanized a lot more, for good or for ill—making friends, making enemies, making bad decisions. Basically I'd like to see him get his hands dirty amongst the squishy, messy humans.
• He'll primarily be interested in information-gathering, particularly in more dangerous areas that aren't well-explored. Probably the Below would be first on his list, followed by the Beyond (mostly because Liem is already my Alenroux guy).
