HARMONIZATION TRACKER

HARMONIZATION TRACKER
As explained on the relevant info page, Harmonization is the process by which characters grow closer (or more distant!) from the core energies driving the faction they have chosen to follow. This is an intentional process, save for extenuating circumstances that may force them to one extreme or the other, but these will always be made clear.

This page is for tracking your character’s Harmonization Tier, as well as tracking the relevant spells from spellbooks that you choose to take.

HARMONIZATION

To change Harmonization tiers, you’ll use the form and format below.

For all Tier changes, we’re simply looking for a summary complemented by links to threads For Tiers 2+ as a show of how your character is developing, like notable actions for AC. In this case, it's specifically pertinent to your character's growth and how they're progressing through their arc in-game. A write-up detailing development and how their actions string together to enforce their motive/alignment with their respective faction is what we're looking for. Talk about your character and how they're getting better/worse! This should be fun, not a chore, and we’re not looking for perfection so much as understanding where your character is in their arc.

However, if we notice that a significant amount of your explanation is not supported by threads, we may reject the application. Handwaving small interactions is always fine, but handwaving your development to reach a higher Tier is not!

An exception to the above is your initial Harmonization to Tier 1. You just got to the game, so nothing to explain yet!

But still, for a little extra direction, here are some very general criteria for how characters harmonize further (hopefully de-harmonizing is a little more obvious). These are just guidelines, and your character may hit these earlier or later! Or not at all! Higher Tiers are not something that every character is expected to achieve, so keep your character's dedication to their faction in mind as you move up. With Tier 3 and higher, they should have no doubts about their loyalty, for example!

Tier 1 (Tier One spellbook here): The character accepts the basics of their faction’s goal and promise. They don’t necessarily have to fully believe in it and can have many doubts, but they should definitely be inclined to follow their chosen faction over the other. This is generally reached via the introduction scenarios into the game or after one month.

Tier 2 (Tier Two spellbook here): The character is feeling more confident about their chosen faction. While they can still have doubts, most have been put to rest, and a sense of belonging is beginning to grow in them. At this Tier, a character is willing to take risks to further their faction’s goals and tends to feel a fondness for their faction over the other - whether this is due to connections to their allies, leadership, or more personal motivations. This is expected to take around three months.

Tier 3 (Tier Three spellbook here): The character is committed to achieving the goals of their faction and is loyal to it in some way. Their motivations for following their faction should be solidified and easily identifiable, whether their loyalties are to the cause, their allies, or perceived personal gain. This also usually means they have taken great risks to help their faction, such as (but absolutely not limited to) standing against the other faction in combat, being a key figure in claiming an Oracle, or taking part in high-stakes social interactions. They feel what they're doing is right and should be able to demonstrate this through action in some way. This is expected to take between 5-6 months.

Tier 4: The character is wholly devoted to the goals of their faction that to not follow it seems insane. At this Tier, their devotion is fanatical and may have the character come off as not fully having a grip on their own sanity or certainly an extremist in making sure their faction is victorious. Tier 4 comes with additional respect among your faction, a new power crafted by the mods to work specifically for your character that reflects the faction's energies itself, and a special lore-based mission to impact the world of Kenos at large. Few characters are expected to reach this level, and this is expected to take more than 6 months at a minimum to achieve.

SPELLBOOK SPELLS

Each Harmonization Tier also includes a maximum number of spells that a character can learn as a part of the process of harmonizing. These spells are selected as a part of your Harmonization application and cannot be changed without spending tokens to do so. Tokens can also be spent to learn additional spells, but these additional spells cannot be swapped out like the freebies can.

If you have a question about a specific spell, please ask those here! These spells all come from Dungeons & Dragons fifth edition and therefore may not map totally evenly to this style of RP, but it’s hard to know until someone wants to use them! Clarifications will also be added to the spellbook once asked.

IC, these spells are taught to a character by a magical tutor (of which there are plenty, so feel free to make up an NPC for this purpose) or by another player character who knows the same spell. The magical energy needed to power these spells comes from the innate natural force that they’re harmonizing with, hence why each Tier has its own book. Your character is acting as a conduit to shape that force into something new, and simply won’t be a big enough channel if their Harmonization level is too low.

TIER 1

[personal profile] epiprocta 2023-01-29 03:26 am (UTC)(link)
finally this useless fuck harmonizes ...............

Character Name: Minegishi Gen
Faction: Meridian
Did your character keep their Sunbeam bead? No. He wouldn't have accepted it in the first place, saying he doesn't want it, and shown a lot of disdain upon being offered it at all.

New Tier: Tier One
Justification: Gen doesn't particularly trust or like either faction, but after a few months of struggling to survive unaligned, he's come to accept that he needs to pick a side in order to not-die. He finally reached a tipping point while at the Scorching Isles, where he came face-to-face with Tyki, who trounced him soundly. Spurred on mostly by the indignity of being so utterly helpless, he resigned himself to picking a side to fight for. Due to a few different factors -- namely, his distrust of Yima for too closely resembling a mother figure back home he had a very complicated relationship with, what he's heard of Meridian from Gray, the amount of time he's spent in Springstar thus far and a vague desire to fight for 'what feels right' -- he pledged himself to Meridian for now and has accepted the duty of fighting for them in the immediate future.

TIER 1

[personal profile] epiprocta 2023-05-31 01:24 am (UTC)(link)
Character Name: Minegishi Gen
Faction: Meridian → Zenith
What did Yima offer your character? Yima offered him Reiji's shard, back when he first showed up in Horos. After keeping it safe for a while (with great effort, as he was Unharmonized at the time), he decided to entrust it to Amos for safekeeping; Amos still has the shard, as Gen trusts him more than pretty much anyone else in-game (possibly including himself).

New Tier: Meridian Tier One → Zenith Tier One
Justification: Gen's loyalty to Meridian has always been fairly tenuous, born mostly out of a spiteful desire not to do what people expect of him, along with needing to side with someone in order to not-die, given he'd be completely defenseless while Unharmonized. However, he's always known that he doesn't really belong on that side, a point made all the clearer to him by a few of his fellow Meridians (Hayame, Mamoru, Dokja). Though he'd been barely holding on as a Meridian, mostly out of loyalty to a few choice people he doesn't want to betray, that stubbornness has its limits. The effects he suffered during the fight for the Iconoclast Oracle were enough to remind him of just how much he hates his homeworld -- and thus, how much he needs to make sure it's gone for good.

Spellbook Spells: Unchanged from when he was Meridian -- Control Flames, Disguise Self, Unseen Servant.

TIER 2

[personal profile] epiprocta 2023-05-31 01:25 am (UTC)(link)
I can't find it any more, but I remember asking before if it would be okay to submit for a Harmonization request jumping two tiers at once if it was appropriate character-wise and getting the OK, so giving this a shot! But submitting separately in case the extra tier-jump isn't kosher, ahaha.

Character Name: Minegishi Gen
Faction: Zenith

New Tier: Tier Two
Justification:

  • Though Gen aligned himself with Meridian for a while, he was fighting against his nature every step of the way. As a deeply cynical and pessimistic young man shaped by trauma, Gen started with very few attachments to his homeworld, and has always wished to see it gone; that desire of his has always run opposite to his "loyalty" to Meridian. As a result, now that he's accepted that he has no place with Meridian, he's fully embraced Zenith's ideals.

  • Even before the dealings with the Iconoclast Oracle, Gen had harbored significant doubts about his alleigance to Meridian, made clearest in his interactions with Amos and Misa. As the two of them are some of the people he's known longest, as well as feeling an especially close emotional bond with, his conversations with them served as potent reminders that he has no real place among the Meridian and would be more welcomed with the Zenith. Both of them also serve as potent emotional anchors that draw Gen towards Zenith, as he feels nobody in Meridian will ever understand him well as Amos and Misa do. After spending close to a month mulling over those thoughts, he'd already mostly accepted that his heart was with Zenith by the time the conflict over the Iconoclast Oracle started.

  • Driven by the event's effects, Gen aligned himself to Zenith mostly on his own, then sought out the last push he'd need to return to 'where he belongs.' He made his lack of loyalty to Meridian and his reasons for aligning himself with Zenith clear while speaking to his chosen trade targets -- Voryn and Set -- which also served to further solidify his loyalty to Zenith internally. Though less focused on Zenith's goal of forging a new world (because he doesn't really care if he's there for it or not), Gen does truly believe in the death of his homeworld and wants to ensure it stays gone.

  • After affirming his place with Zenith, Gen did about as much as could be done to show his loyalty within one event. In a somewhat manic state, he sought to corrupt both John and Makoto over to Zenith, as well as defending fellow (fresh) Zenite Ruby from a hostile Meridian. All three actions will only serve to solidify Gen's belief that he belongs with Zenith, as they feel like actions that can't easily be "taken back," forcing him to commit to this path he's chosen.

TIER 3

[personal profile] epiprocta 2023-10-28 02:22 am (UTC)(link)
Character Name: Minegishi Gen
Faction: Zenith

New Tier: Tier Three
Justification:

  • Having completed his journey from long-time Unharmonized, to temporary Meridian, then finally returned to Zenith where he knows he belongs, Gen has since come to terms with exactly what he wants to fight for: the right to ensure his hometown is eliminated for good, and to then disappear once the task is complete. As a youth who struggled with intense feelings of both self-loathing and a loathing for his hometown from a young age, he's found great catharsis and relief in acknowledging his more fervent wish is mutual destruction for himself and the town that made him the way he is. (Though he hasn't yet decided what fate he wishes for the shard of Reiji, the one person he loves the most, as recent events push him further towards being unhinged and singularly protective of it, he's growing increasingly likely to want to destroy it along with himself.) Having first acknowledged this wish with Set's help during his Harmonization to Zenith, Gen has only doubled down on that desire during the time since. It's a goal that he's voiced out loud to very few, but it's one that he stubbornly, doggedly believes in; even in the rare moments he starts to falter, he begrudges himself for doing so and soon returns to believing in his spiteful, self-destructive goal.

  • In terms of accomplishments made in Zenith's name, Gen has not been the most successful, though it's certainly not for a lack of trying. Following his switch to Zenith, he served as ambassador for the faction to the best of his abilities despite any personal doubts he held about the position and about the ambassadorial meetings in general. Following his valiant efforts there, he proceeded to perform to the best of his abilities during the battle for the Exalt Oracle's favor -- managing to procure one of the effigy's items from D (before being backstabbed by John), helping Amos fight against Dimitri and Hayame before being thwarted by Set, and attempting to sabotage Meridian camp before being once more thwarted by Hayame. Though he hasn't managed to snag any decisive victories in Zenith's name thus far, he sees Zenith's loss during the Exalt Oracle's battle as being deeply unfair, and will only be fighting more furiously to ensure a win in Zenith's name in the near future.

  • Even setting aside Gen's active wish for a Zenith victory and his attempts to bring about that win, he's also come to grimly accepted that he simply cannot remains a neutral party to Meridian any longer. As his loyalty to Zenith deepens, he's steadily given up on playing nice with (most) Meridians, a process that was further sped up when his very public fight with Liem following the Exalt Oracle battle resulted in him being imprisoned in Springstar for a stint, followed by a more personal punishment which heightened his paranoia. Though Gen retains a certain level of fondness and loyalty towards a few specific Meridian Shardbearers and civilians, he mostly feels guilty about it knowing that he cannot be by their sides any longer, and instead seeks a way to keep them safe in the event of a Zenith victory, as he hopes for.
