SIDE QUESTS
SIDE QUESTS
The world of Kenos has many mysteries to explore, and not all of them are directly tied to the ongoing plot of Meridian and Zenith struggling against each other to claim the Oracles. This page is for compiling what could effectively be called side content for the game, but these are all chances to explore the world of Kenos and have some unique opportunities to discover hidden lands and secrets, gain boons or treasure, or just deepen your CR! To be clear, these are all separate from Lore Quests and are posted as areas get added and/or Loremasters get ideas for quests.
Because these quests aren’t part of the overarching plot, they’re effectively “missions” that characters can choose to undertake and the exact way the mission plays out is up to you! Consider these more prompts for threads or open logs, but with a bonus of being able to receive something IC for the effort. For an example of how this might work, see here (at least until we get some side quests done). Sometimes this may be a magical item, or other times it might be a curse! Not every side quest you undertake has universally good outcomes, after all. Any quests with significant risk will be clear about that risk!
OOC, you’ll comment under a side quest to “claim” it by noting all participating characters, then once your thread/log/etc. for this mission is complete, you’ll return here to turn it in. Loremasters will then tell you the further rewards + outcomes. As a note, you can only have one active side quest per character at a time. If you decide that you don’t want to do the quest anymore, just delete your comment. If you run into an issue with completing it (such as the other party dropping), just get in touch with the mods and we’ll work it out with you.

Tap the Sap
Arjun will hand over a glass jar and say that he'd like this amount of sap from Meridian or Zenith's Tree of Life. OOC, the volume is irrelevant, but it's significant enough that it would take a bit of time or multiple visits to fill up. Note: the Trees of both cities are considered sacred and trying to steal the sap from them would be a serious crime. Anyone who takes this quest will need to be clever to avoid being caught.This quest is avaliable in Meridian or Zenith flavors (indicate which one you're claiming) and can only be completed once each. When claiming, please include a general outline of the characters' plan for the Loremaster to determine their success (this will not be RNG, this will be our judgement of whether it's a good/effective plan or not)!
POTENTIAL REWARDS
Influence in Kowloon, Favor with Arjun. Accomplishing the task well may grant each participant that directly assists with the sap heist with a higher tech item of your choice than is easily avaliable in Kenos.POTENTIAL CONSEQUENCES
Dependent on the characters' Faction. Stealing from your own Faction's tree will increase your character's Discord by one level regardless of whether you get caught or not. Similarly, stealing from the opposite Faction's tree will decrease your Discord by one level. Weird!If caught, characters will be punished by the faction they're attempting to steal from. This will mean a moderate consequence that you'll be able to select from a list. These can range from temporary effects (lasting ~1 month) to more permanent ones, but you'll get to pick which one you'd like.

Rosaria has asked Bondrewd to assist her with getting sap from the Tree of Life in Springstar for Arjun. She will be taking advantage of the fact that Bondrewd is(was) temporarily a Meridian to sneak her way into the city under the excuse that she's aiding him with any residual blight that needs to clearing but will mostly be traveling alongside him to scrape sap off the tree.
She will mostly be hiding in plain sight with just a hood to cover her and leave the talking to Bondrewd who will be doing his best to also look innocuous in spite of his size.

Because the Tree of Life is sacred as well as in the heart of Heliopolis, Rosaria’s presence as a Zenite won’t go unnoticed, and Bondrewd’s help doesn’t go over as well as they might hope. He’s a recent convert to Meridian, after all, and not fully trusted. Also, uh, he’s one of the most Zenith looking characters considering how big, scary, and also purple-accented he is. Sorry bud.
As such, the pair will be apprehended by the Helios Legionary as the first part of this consequence. However, before I get to the rest, a question! Will they go with the Legionary willingly, or will they try to fight back/escape/etc?

"He's going to commit to the bit, and accept being taken in by them with a deep apology — after all, he was only checking on the health of the Tree following the Blight! Perhaps he should have submitted the proper paperwork, how foolish of him to cause the whole misunderstanding. Rosaria was with him because purification of the Blight requires Meridian and Zenite energies. Once in custody, he'd use Charm Person (ONLY in a pinch with a nonhostile and sympathetic Legionary), but is going to accept his fate to give her time to escape and still potentially finish the job for them if she fights her way out!"

Liem and Yuri will find someplace nearby the Court, but out of the way enough to hopefully not be too obvious (and therefore suspicious). Since Liem has both mislead from his T3 harmonization and spider climb as a constant ability, he will use his spell to turn invisible, leaving his illusory double with Yuri, who will be keeping watch to the best of his ability and informing Liem of any issues he might not be aware of from his position. Liem will sneak into the Court, climb the tree so any noise or other signs of his activities are less obvious to people at ground level, and tap the sap while invisible. Depending on how long the operation takes, they may need to do this on more than one trip, since his spell lasts a maximum of one hour.

The tree of life in Highstorm is indeed as sacred as the one in Springstar, but when Liem and Yuri make their way to the court, it is indeed in session, meaning that there are not many people milling about. Since Liem and Yuri appear to be loitering outside near the court, Yuri will indeed be stopped by a local who had to leave some committee early, however, given that he is a Tier 1 Meri, they will mostly give Liem's "double" a businesslike, but deeply chill nod, and similar to here will give Yuri a bit of a lecture about how misguided he is. Weirdly, Liem doesn't intrude, but maybe they think that their words get through to "him", or not — but they eventually have to move on to their other appointments.
Meanwhile, Liem will be free to move up into the tree, and collect the sap. Though there is a close call as Kathova walks by underneath, and sits for a spell underneath the tree, and he'll even pull out his sketchbook for a bit, but after about only 20 minutes, it's obvious inspiration doesn't really come to him, and he leaves. Liem's quiet, careful ministrations are rewarded, and he can collect enough sap for Arjun's quest!
When they bring it to them, Arjun will begin by laying out a spread of high-tech weapons, such as guns (laser and bullet?), shock lances, laser discs (Think electric boomerangs a'la tron) vibrating knives, etc for them to choose from! They will explain that the effort to get this sap should not go unrewarded.
If they wish to try for a different kind of reward, they will be free to try to convince them.

Upon their return to Arjun with the sample, Liem and Yuri will be trying to engage them in a new business opportunity. Specifically, they'd like them as a supplier so Yuri and Ryouma can funnel their most high-end weaponry towards select people in the Helios Legionary—and compensate Arjun appropriately, of course. They're not asking for total exclusivity: just priority, so Meridian can have the first crack at the nicer gadgets they get a hold of.
Liem would also offer to create a cornerstone for them, if they don't have one yet and/or would like one in a specific place; Yuri can offer to let Arjun study his Relic (though Arjun should know up front that they can't wear it, since it will harm anyone who isn't Yuri).
