Sorry for the vagueness! In general, Meridian's goals align to his own because his highest priority is restoring and returning to his world. Even if he didn't have the sunbeam as "proof", he does feel very strongly that some part of his world is still out there and it can still be saved (this thread with Amos is still in the early stages but touches on it briefly). As a king of Almyra and a former leader of Fódlan's Leicester Alliance, he feels a duty to both nations, and the rest of his world by extension, to save and protect it.

Arguably, saving all other worlds is just as important to him as his own, too: in his worldview, all people of all places and nationalities should be considered equally precious, and that also means all worlds are equally worth saving. Now that he realises the conflict is starting to ramp up, he's likewise going to take his loyalty to Meridian's aims more seriously as well, compared to his initial scepticism.

He hasn't really touched on most of the above icly, because he plays his cards very close to his chest when it comes to even basic details about his identity and his motivations, so there's not much thread evidence in this regard. WHICH SOUNDS LIKE A COPOUT FOR A MOSTLY TEXT ANSWER... but if it isn't enough, I can try to think of more creative ways to show his hidden motivations and resubmit this later.
